mmo B gene encodes protein B of soluble methane monooxygenase from Methylococcus capsulatus (Bath).This gene encodes approximately 16kDa protein B.At low concentrations, Protein B converts the hydroxylase from an oxidase to a hydroxylase and stabilises intermediates necessary for oxygen activation. Saturating amounts of Protein B dramatically increase the rates of formation of intermediates and accelerate catalysis of methane to methanol by soluble methane monooxygenase.sMMO is comprised of three components; A, B and C. Protein C (the reductase) transfers electrons from NADH to protein A (the hydroxylase) which contains the active site, and protein B regulates this electron flow.
